A recently uncovered bug in Marvel Rivals disproportionately affects players with less powerful computers, creating a significant gameplay imbalance. Low FPS (frames per second) results in several heroes exhibiting reduced movement speed and damage output. This effectively transforms the game, which already demands significant PC resources, into a pay-to-win scenario where players must invest in better hardware rather than directly paying the developers.
This is undoubtedly a bug, not an intended game mechanic. However, a swift resolution is unlikely due to the complexity of the underlying issue. The problem stems from the Delta Time parameter, a crucial element in game design that ensures consistent gameplay regardless of frame rate. Correcting this will require considerable developer time and effort.
Currently, the following heroes are known to be affected: Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Venom, Magik, and Star-Lord. These characters experience slower movement, reduced jump height, and diminished damage. The possibility remains that other heroes are also impacted. Until a fix is implemented, players are advised to prioritize increasing their FPS, even if it requires compromising graphical settings.
