Sony's Bungie Launches teamLFG for Action Game

Author : Zoey Oct 01,2025

Sony unveils PlayStation's newest studio, teamLFG, hinting at its inaugural project.

In a PlayStation Blog update, Hermen Hulst, head of Sony's Studio Business Group, revealed teamLFG originated within Bungie – creators of Destiny and Marathon. The studio is currently developing an ambitious incubation project that Hulst describes as "exceptionally promising."

The acronym LFG ('Looking For Group' in gaming terminology) suggests strong multiplayer focus. Their first title blends team-based action with fighting game mechanics, platforming elements, MOBA strategy, life simulation, and quirky "frog-game" influences. Set in a vibrant science-fantasy realm, the game promises humorous storytelling alongside competitive play.

"Our mission is crafting games that foster meaningful connections," the studio stated. "We're building spaces where players find camaraderie, shared experiences, and belonging."

"We envision players eagerly logging in to find friends already gathered. Memorable moments should emerge organically—those legendary plays that reshape entire matches. As we say internally: that's the magic we chase."

"These will be deep multiplayer worlds where mastery meets endless replayability. Community collaboration is central—we'll involve players early through playtests, maintaining flexibility to evolve based on feedback long after launch."

teamLFG emerged from Bungie's restructuring following Sony's acquisition. Financial struggles with Destiny 2 led to workforce reductions—approximately 100 positions eliminated in November 2023, followed by an additional 220 cuts (17% of staff) in 2024. The incubation project transitioned to standalone status during this period.

A former Bungie legal executive later commended Sony's intervention in Destiny 2's live-service overhaul, citing necessary improvements.

Recently, Bungie showcased its extraction shooter Marathon while outlining Destiny 2's future content plans. Development has reportedly shifted focus from Destiny 3 and shelved the Payback spinoff project.
