MindsEye has released the first in a series of emergency hotfixes aimed at improving the game's performance following a troubled launch.
Yesterday, developer Build A Rocket Boy expressed regret over the issues players encountered and committed to rolling out multiple patches to address performance problems, glitches, and AI behavior.
The rocky launch led the developer to cancel sponsored streams, with reports of players successfully obtaining refunds, even from typically strict platforms like Sony.
Hotfix #1 is now available on PC (5.7GB) and PS5 (2GB), with Xbox Series X/S (4GB) versions coming soon, according to a Discord post from Build A Rocket Boy that included full patch notes.
"Today we've released Hotfix #1, the first in an expedited series of patches designed to address player feedback and improve the overall experience," the developer stated.
The update delivers CPU and GPU performance enhancements and memory optimizations across all platforms. It also lowers the difficulty of the CPR mini-game, introduces an option to adjust or disable Depth of Field, and resolves missing controls in the MineHunter and Run Dungeon mini-games.
On PC, new pop-up warnings alert users who have disabled Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling or are using CPUs prone to crash issues.
Build A Rocket Boy confirmed this patch resolves a memory leak responsible for many player-reported crashes. "Performance optimization remains our top priority and an ongoing effort that will require additional time," the team added.
"We will continue sharing frequent, transparent updates. Our team is dedicated to acting on your feedback as urgently as possible," Build A Rocket Boy said.
The developer aims to deliver continued performance and stability updates, a rebalanced 'hard' difficulty setting, animation fixes, and AI improvements by the end of June.
The key question is whether Build A Rocket Boy, founded by former Rockstar North head Leslie Benzies, can successfully turn MindsEye around. On Steam—which reflects only part of the player base—the game reached a peak of 3,302 concurrent players at launch but has since seen a 24-hour peak of just 786. As of this writing, 435 players were online on Steam, with the game holding a 'Mixed' user review rating.
