Marvel's Spider-Man 2's PC launch on Steam and the Epic Games Store was notable for its lack of pre-order or pre-download options, resulting in a massive 140GB download. This absence of pre-release access, however, didn't prevent hackers from quickly cracking the game. Within an hour of release, the game's protection-less distribution was compromised.
Sony's relatively low-key marketing campaign and the late release of system requirements further contributed to the situation. Despite this, Spider-Man 2 has debuted strongly, currently holding the seventh position among Sony's biggest Steam releases, trailing behind titles like God of War, Horizon, and Days Gone.
Initial player reception, however, is mixed. With over 1,280 reviews at the time of writing, the game boasts a 55% positive rating, indicating issues with optimization, crashes, and bugs. This contrasts sharply with the success of Spider-Man Remastered on PC, which previously peaked at over 66,000 concurrent players. The coming weekend will be crucial in determining whether Spider-Man 2 can match its predecessor's online performance; however, current sales trends suggest a promising outcome.
