Phantom Blade Zero Development Updates

Phantom Blade Zero Not A Soulslike, Features Four Difficulty Options

Phantom Blade Zero Playtime Estimated to be 20-30 Hours with Adjustable Difficulty

Phantom Blade Zero will feature four difficulty settings: easy, ordinary, difficult, and extremely difficult. This move distinguishes it from the Soulslike genre, which is known for its high difficulty and lack of adjustable settings. Following its reveal at the PlayStation Showcase 2023, fans drew comparisons to Soulslike games due to its aesthetic and combat style. However, Game Director Soulframe clarified in a tweet post-Summer Game Fest 2024 that the game is not intended to be another Soulslike. He emphasized, "We want combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating."

While the game does draw inspiration from Soulslike titles with its multi-layered maps and hidden areas, Soulframe noted that "the similarities stop there." He described Phantom Blade Zero as "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," blending intense hack-and-slash action with expansive exploration.

Gameplay Features With Over 30+ Weapons, 20-30 Hours of Playthrough, And More

Phantom Blade Zero Playtime Estimated to be 20-30 Hours with Adjustable Difficulty

Recent interviews have shed light on several exciting gameplay features of Phantom Blade Zero. Players can choose from over 30 primary and 20 secondary weapons, each offering unique gameplay mechanics and effects. The main story is expected to take around 20-30 hours to complete, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content.

Boss fights in Phantom Blade Zero will feature at least two phases. If a player dies during the second phase, they can restart from that point, skipping the first phase. A new game mode, "Li Wulin," allows players to rematch defeated bosses and unlock new hidden bosses. Additionally, there's a mechanic that influences the game's ending, though details on how it works and the number of possible endings remain undisclosed.

Phantom Blade Zero Year Of The Snake Gameplay Trailer

Phantom Blade Zero's "Year of the Snake Gameplay Trailer" showcases the protagonist, Soul, battling the "Chief Disciple of The Seven Stars." The trailer also highlights various weapons Soul can use, such as the "Weapon No.13 Soft Snake Sword" and "Weapon No.27 White Serpent and Crimson Viper."

The trailer indicates that the release date for Phantom Blade Zero will be announced in 2025. The game's official Twitter (X) page celebrated the Lunar New Year with a video where Soulframe teased more exciting announcements and promised to reveal something unprecedented later in the year.

Phantom Blade Zero is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and planned for release on PC as well. No official release date has been set yet.
