Onimusha: Way of the Sword: new details and release date

Capcom unveils new details for the upcoming Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for a 2026 release. Prepare for visceral combat set against the backdrop of iconic Kyoto locations. This iteration boasts a revamped battle system and introduces a fresh protagonist.

The core gameplay revolves around the visceral thrill of swordplay. Developers aim for realistic sword fighting, incorporating new Genma enemies and dual-wielding capabilities, complemented by the mighty Omni Gauntlet. The emphasis is on the satisfying brutality of combat, with a soul absorption mechanic enabling health regeneration and access to special abilities. While some trailers might minimize gore, Capcom confirms dismemberment and blood effects will be fully present in the final game.

Building upon Onimusha's established aesthetic, the game integrates dark fantasy elements and leverages "Capcom's latest technology" for an optimal player experience.

Expect a compelling cast of characters, including a new hero, and enemies that are both visually striking and strategically challenging. The Edo period (1603-1868) serves as the game's historical setting, with Kyoto's rich history and folklore providing a captivating backdrop. Fueled by faith, the protagonist wields the Oni gauntlet, battling monstrous entities, absorbing their souls to heal and unleash devastating techniques. Real historical figures will also make appearances. Real-time sword combat is central, designed to maximize the player's enjoyment of decimating foes.
