The director behind the anticipated Donkey Kong Bananza has addressed reported performance concerns while emphasizing the team's focus on delivering engaging gameplay.
During an interview with La Vanguardia, director Kazuya Takahashi responded to performance observations noted during preview sessions.
"Multiple design choices contribute to this," Takahashi explained regarding the technical observations. "We deliberately incorporated effects like hit-stop and slow motion to heighten impact moments. Additionally, our voxel-based engine sometimes processes significant environmental destruction in real-time."
"We recognize minor performance dips may occur during these intensive sequences," Takahashi continued. "That said, as [the journalist] noted, the overall experience remains fluid. During development, we consistently prioritized player enjoyment and responsive controls over perfect stability in peak moments."
Our IGN Donkey Kong Bananza preview praised the visual achievements, stating: "Bananza appears poised to become one of Nintendo's most visually striking titles. It genuinely harnesses the Switch 2's capabilities - with breathtaking environments and DK's remarkably expressive animations suggesting Nintendo's next-gen vision has arrived."
The action-adventure title launches July 17 at $69.99 as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. Fans wishing to avoid spoilers should consider adjusting social media settings, as early copies have already surfaced among some players.
