The DOOM community's relentless experimentation continues, with recent efforts pushing the game's boundaries onto unexpected platforms. NyanSatan, a tech-savvy enthusiast, achieved the remarkable feat of running the classic DOOM on Apple's Lightning/HDMI adapter.
This seemingly unconventional platform proved surprisingly capable. The adapter, as explained by NyanSatan, boasts its own iOS-based firmware and a processor clocking up to 168 MHz. By accessing the adapter's firmware, NyanSatan successfully executed the game, utilizing a MacBook to overcome the adapter's lack of internal memory for data transfer.
Shifting gears to a different DOOM title, DOOM: The Dark Ages promises enhanced accessibility. Players will enjoy greater control over the game's difficulty, allowing them to adjust enemy aggression. This commitment to accessibility is a core design principle, according to executive producer Marty Stratton. The game will offer extensive customization options, surpassing those found in previous id Software titles. Players can fine-tune various aspects, including enemy damage, difficulty levels, projectile speed, damage taken, and even the overall game tempo and parry timing.
Stratton further clarified that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't necessary to understand the narratives of either DOOM: The Dark Ages or DOOM: Eternal.
