Heroes of the Storm Revives Fan-Favorite Mode

Heroes of the Storm is set to revitalize its gameplay with the return of the beloved Heroes Brawl, now rebranded as Brawl Mode. This exciting update brings back dozens of discontinued maps that haven't been seen in nearly five years, offering players a chance to relive some classic challenges. The Brawl Mode is currently available for testing on the Heroes of the Storm Public Test Realm (PTR) and is expected to officially launch with the next patch in about a month.

Originally introduced as Arena Mode in 2016, Heroes Brawl was inspired by Hearthstone's Tavern Brawls and brought unique map layouts, alternative objectives, and quirky rulesets to the game. Notable Brawls included the all-Nova Ghost Protocol sniper duel, action-packed Arena versions of various battlefields, and the PvE mission Escape from Braxis. Despite its popularity, Heroes Brawl was replaced by ARAM in 2020 due to the challenges of maintaining the mode and the preference for single-lane maps.

The new Brawl Mode will rotate every two weeks, on the 1st and 15th of each month, differing from the weekly rotation of its predecessor. Players can earn a special chest by participating in three games of the active Brawl. It's unclear whether this reward can be earned once per Brawl or weekly during its availability. With over two dozen past Brawls, fans can look forward to seeing many favorites return, along with potential new additions.

The first Brawl Mode to hit the PTR is the holiday-themed Snow Brawl, which players can test now. The official launch of Brawl Mode is anticipated to coincide with the beginning of February, following the three-week duration of the PTR version.

The timing of this update is particularly significant as June 2, 2025, marks the 10-year anniversary of Heroes of the Storm. The return of Brawl Mode is a major win for fans and could signal further developments or even a revival of the game.

Heroes of the Storm PTR Patch Notes (January 6, 2025)
