Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has reassured worried shareholders following the announcement of GTA 6's delay.
Earlier today, Rockstar confirmed a major postponement for GTA 6, which is anticipated to become the largest entertainment release in history. Originally scheduled for fall 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game will now launch on May 26, 2026. This shift moves the release from Take-Two's fiscal 2026 to fiscal 2027.
Take-Two's stock initially dropped by 7.98% following the announcement. In an official statement on its corporate website, the company reaffirmed its projection for sequential growth and record Net Bookings (revenue) in Fiscal Years 2026 and 2027.
Zelnick personally addressed the situation, confirming that Take-Two fully supports Rockstar's decision to delay GTA 6. He informed shareholders that the company is positioned for a sustained, multi-year growth phase.
"We unequivocally support Rockstar Games taking the necessary time to perfect their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which is set to deliver a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience surpassing audience expectations," Zelnick stated.
"While we recognize the importance of our release schedules and the immense global excitement surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI, we remain unwavering in our commitment to quality. As we continue to roll out our impressive pipeline of titles, we anticipate entering a multi-year growth cycle that will enhance shareholder value."
With GTA 6 and its projected multi-billion dollar revenue now shifting out of the 2026 fiscal year, what alternatives does Take-Two have? Besides Rockstar, Take-Two's portfolio includes publisher 2K Games and 2K Sports. Borderlands 4 from Gearbox is expected in September. Mafia: The Old Country is also slated for release this year. Another profitable NBA title (NBA 2K26) from 2K Sports is anticipated. Further ahead, development continues on the next BioShock installment and Ken Levine's upcoming project, Judas.
Realistically, however, none of 2K's forthcoming releases over the next year can compensate for the absence of the GTA 6 juggernaut, leaving Take-Two's revenue projections lower than initially planned. That said, while the delay doesn't come as a complete shock to the GTA 6 community, many had hoped for at least a new screenshot to ease the disappointment.
