Stellar Blade, the first non-gacha game from Shift Up to hit the US market, has garnered attention for its challenging soulslike gameplay, stunning graphics, and captivating soundtrack. It's also notable for its provocative character design.

In our review, Mitchell Saltzman noted that "Stellar Blade stands out as a gorgeous and well-crafted action game with very impressive strengths and very clear weaknesses. While its story and characters may lack depth, and some RPG elements like sidequests feel repetitive, the game's Sekiro-inspired combat system is rock solid. It offers a deep roster of monstrous enemies to battle and plenty of hidden treasures that encourage exploration." IGN gave Stellar Blade a 7/10, though I personally found it to be an exceptional game deserving of a higher score. It didn't make it onto our list of the best PS5 games of 2024 due to its recent release (games must be out for at least 6 months to qualify).

Stellar Blade is a technically demanding title, and I recommend running it in "Performance" mode to maintain a smooth 60fps. If you're lucky enough to own a PlayStation 5 Pro, you can enjoy the game in "Enhanced" 4K mode, achieving frame rates of 50fps or higher. According to the official PlayStation blog, "With PS5 Pro, players will experience Stellar Blade in 4K resolution at 50fps or more, with smoother gameplay and enhanced detail in PSSR upscale mode. The HFR (high framerate) option is also supported, allowing for a fluid gaming experience at 80fps with a 120hz display."
