IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong—the game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. This eagerly awaited sequel from Team Cherry, based in Adelaide, South Australia, has been at the top of Steam's wishlist chart for years, and while a precise release date remains elusive beyond a general 2025 window, this museum event offers a tangible milestone for fans.
The game will be featured as part of ACMI's "Game Worlds" exhibition, which will not only allow visitors to play Silksong but also provide insights into its design and artistic direction. The exhibition promises to showcase the intricate details behind the game, from the animation of Hornet’s movements and attacks to the logic of its challenging boss fights.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their enthusiasm: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!”
To further highlight the game's design, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, one of several elements that will be showcased in the exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.
With the game set to be playable in September, fans are hopeful that Silksong might launch before this date, perhaps even in August. The anticipation is building, especially after Silksong made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, reaffirming its 2025 release window. This brief glimpse included new gameplay footage and confirmed Team Cherry's updated launch plans, marking the most significant update on Silksong in years.
Initially announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with plans for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 versions to follow, Silksong has been the subject of numerous intriguing teases. Team Cherry started 2025 with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, sparking speculation among fans about a potential re-reveal in April.
