Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon Digs its Way Out of Netflix Games

Netflix Games subscribers will soon be saying goodbye to Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon. Developer Yacht Club Games announced the game's departure, though they reassured fans that it will remain accessible on other platforms including Steam, Switch, and PlayStation 4.

This news follows the recent positive announcement of Squid Game: Unleashed becoming free-to-play. While the loss is undoubtedly disappointing for those who discovered the game through Netflix, Yacht Club Games has stated they are actively exploring alternative distribution options. A standalone mobile release is a strong possibility, although a precise timeline remains unclear.

The Subscription Service Conundrum

The removal highlights a key risk inherent in subscription gaming services: reduced player ownership. When a game is removed, players are entirely reliant on the developer to ensure its future availability. While Yacht Club Games likely has several avenues open to them, a return to the market might not be immediate. We can anticipate potential re-release options sometime in 2025.

In the interim, numerous other gaming options are available. Check out our latest list of top mobile games for some exciting alternatives!
