Typically priced at $199 for a new unit, this deal saves you a solid 20%. While a Sony warranty isn't guaranteed, you're covered by Amazon's 30-day return policy, the same as with new purchases. This device looks and functions as if it were brand new, though it may show moderate packing damage upon inspection.

The PlayStation Portal is Sony's innovative handheld gaming accessory designed for the PS5 console. Resembling an extended DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen nestled in the center, it transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming device, allowing you to stream games at up to 60fps. It replicates the DualSense's features like haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchscreen interface in place of the touchpad. To use the Portal away from home, you'll need a very stable and fast internet connection. Remember, the PS Portal is not a standalone device; it requires a PS5 to function.

Update: You no longer need a PS5 to enjoy games on the PS Portal. Sony has rolled out a new feature allowing Portal owners to stream games directly from their PlayStation Now cloud streaming service, bypassing the need for a PS5 console. This means access to over 120 games, including titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. To take advantage of this, you'll need to subscribe to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, which at $18 a month, is a more cost-effective option than purchasing a PS5 and additional games.

It's worth noting that while the PlayStation Portal offers a streamlined experience for streaming PS5 games over Wi-Fi, you can achieve similar functionality by using the PS Remote Play app on other devices, including the Steam Deck. However, setup is more complex and you won't enjoy all the features of the DualSense controller.

PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy

"The PlayStation Portal has exceeded my expectations in the most surprising way. It's far superior to playing on a phone with a makeshift controller, offering a seamless experience that I didn't anticipate. The freedom to play my PS5 games from anywhere with decent Wi-Fi is fantastic, especially when the family is occupied with the TV playing the Switch. However, remember it's not a standalone device; you need a PS5 to make it work. The only drawbacks are its inability to connect to Wi-Fi networks that require a web browser login and the lack of Bluetooth audio support. Without these issues, I'd recommend it as a must-have for every PS5 owner who loves handheld gaming or competes for TV time at home."
