The Samsung 990 Evo Plus 2TB SSD Is On Sale Today: Great for PS5 and Gaming PCs

Score a screaming deal on Samsung's top-tier SSD! The Samsung 990 Evo Plus 2TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe solid-state drive is currently on sale for just $129.99—a price that even undercuts Black Friday deals. That's a massive $40 less than the Samsung 990 Pro, and most gamers won't see any performance difference.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is a fantastic drive for both your gaming PC and PS5. It easily surpasses Sony's minimum speed requirements for the PS5, boasting sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s and 6,300 MB/s respectively. While not quite as fast as the 990 Pro, it's significantly faster than the standard 990 Evo. The key difference? This drive lacks DRAM. However, for PS5 gaming, this is completely irrelevant. For PCs, the 990 Evo Plus utilizes HMB (host memory buffer), cleverly borrowing a negligible amount of RAM from your system memory—gamers won't notice any performance impact.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus doesn't include a pre-installed heatsink. But its new single-sided design is energy-efficient and generates minimal heat. This means you likely won't need a heatsink, even in a PS5. However, adding one for extra peace of mind is perfectly acceptable—the only downside is the extra $7 cost.
