Pokémon Fossil Museum to Display Real and Fake Fossils in U.S. Next Year

Author : Olivia May 28,2025

The Pokémon Company has exciting news for North American fans: the Pokémon Fossil Museum is set to make its North American debut at Chicago's Field Museum on May 22, 2026. This unique exhibition, which first launched in Japan, brings together the world of Pokémon and the wonders of paleontology by displaying Pokémon "fossils" alongside real-world ancient lifeforms.

During your visit to the museum, you'll be treated to an engaging display of vibrant Pokémon models placed next to the Field Museum’s renowned collection of extinct species. You'll get to see scientific casts of iconic Field Museum dinosaurs like SUE the T. rex and the Chicago Archaeopteryx, juxtaposed with Fossil Pokémon such as Tyrantrum and Archeops. The exhibit challenges visitors to identify both the differences and similarities between these fascinating creatures. "How many differences (and similarities) will you spot, Trainers?" the museum prompts, inviting Pokémon enthusiasts and science lovers alike to explore this unique blend of fiction and science.

For those unable to travel to either Japan or Chicago, The Pokémon Company and the Toyohashi Museum of Natural History have made it possible to experience the Pokémon Fossil Museum from the comfort of your own home. A virtual tour is available, allowing Pokémon fans around the globe to explore the exhibit and marvel at the collection of both real and Pokémon fossils, ranging from a tyrannosaurus to a Tyrantrum.

In other Pokémon-related news, authorities in the UK recently arrested a man after discovering a significant stash of stolen Pokémon cards valued at £250,000 (approximately $332,500). The cache was uncovered following a raid by Greater Manchester Police at a residence in Hyde, Tameside, on the outskirts of Greater Manchester. In a light-hearted comment, a police spokesperson quipped, "Gotta catch 'em all," referencing the popular Pokémon slogan.
