Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team Arrives on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack

Launching August 9th

Nintendo's expanding its classic game library! Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team is coming to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service on August 9th. This beloved Pokémon spin-off joins the growing collection of Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis titles available to Expansion Pack subscribers.

Originally released worldwide for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team is a unique roguelike adventure. Players unexpectedly transform into Pokémon and embark on dungeon-crawling missions to solve the mystery behind their transformation. A companion title, Blue Rescue Team, launched alongside it for the Nintendo DS, and the series was later remade for the Switch in 2020 as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX.

Fans Eagerly Await Mainline Pokémon Games on NSO Expansion Pack

The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack regularly adds classic games, but the inclusion of only Pokémon spin-offs like Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Puzzle League has left some fans wanting more. Many are hoping to see mainline Pokémon titles like Pokémon Red and Blue added to the service. While Nintendo hasn't indicated plans to add these core games, speculation abounds.

Some believe challenges exist with N64 Transfer Pak compatibility, while others point to potential infrastructure limitations or integration issues with the Pokémon Home app. Since Nintendo doesn't fully own the Pokémon Home app, contractual agreements might present hurdles. One fan theorized, "I'd guess they want to ensure there's trading and that the trading can't be exploited."
