During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly the entire catalog of Nintendo Switch games will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, several popular titles are set to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring unique upgrades and new functionalities.
The first game highlighted was Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which will introduce "Jamboree TV". This upgrade includes mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble", and innovative gameplay using a new camera accessory.
Next up were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, both set to receive enhanced resolution, framerate, and HDR support. These games will also benefit from a new feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, which offers voice guidance for locating Shrines and Koroks, as well as the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR code with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is getting a significant upgrade with a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled Star-Crossed World, alongside improved graphics and framerates.
Two upcoming titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also receive enhanced versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature mouse control capabilities, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR support. Pokemon Legends: Z-A will boast better resolution and framerates.
All these upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. For owners of the original games on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party: Jamboree, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
