Ninja Gaiden 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black: A Double Dose of Ninja Action
The Xbox Developer Direct 2025 delivered a thrilling surprise: the announcement of both Ninja Gaiden 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. Team Ninja, celebrating its 30th anniversary, declared 2025 "The Year of the Ninja," promising a revitalized franchise.
Ninja Gaiden 4: A New Era Begins
Developed by the collaborative powerhouses Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, Ninja Gaiden 4 marks the series' return after a 13-year hiatus. This direct sequel to Ninja Gaiden 3 retains the series' signature challenging yet rewarding gameplay. The partnership with Xbox is a natural progression, given their history with Team Ninja's previous titles.
A New Protagonist Takes Center Stage
Ninja Gaiden 4 introduces Yakumo, a young ninja from the rival Raven clan, striving to achieve Master Ninja status. PlatinumGames' Art Director, Tomoko Nishii, describes Yakumo as a character designed to stand alongside Ryu Hayabusa, the epitome of a ninja. Producer and Director Yuji Nakao explains the decision to introduce a new protagonist: to broaden the series' appeal while ensuring long-time fans remain engaged through Ryu's significant role in the story.
Ryu Hayabusa, however, remains a key figure, serving as a formidable opponent and benchmark for Yakumo's growth. He will also be playable, ensuring fans of the original protagonist are not disappointed.
Revitalized Combat: Speed and Brutality
Ninja Gaiden 4 boasts breakneck-speed combat, retaining the brutal intensity of its predecessors. Yakumo's unique fighting style incorporates the new Bloodbind Ninjutsu Nue Style, alongside the Raven Style, offering a fresh yet familiar experience. Team Ninja's Masazaku Hirayama assures fans the action will feel authentic to the series, while Nakao highlights the incorporation of PlatinumGames' speed and dynamic flair.
The game is nearing completion, currently in the polishing phase, with further details to be revealed soon.
Release Date and Availability

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black: A Remastered Classic
Alongside the announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4, a remake of the original Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox 360, 2008) titled Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5, and included with Xbox Game Pass.
