Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Swings Onto PC – January 30, 2025
January 30, 2025: PC Release Date Confirmed
The official announcement, made during the Marvel Games showcase at New York Comic Con, confirms a January 30, 2025 PC release. Developed and optimized by Nixxes Software in close collaboration with Insomniac Games, PlayStation, and Marvel Games, the PC version promises a top-tier experience. Nixxes, renowned for their PlayStation-to-PC ports (including the original *Marvel’s Spider-Man* games and *Horizon* series), ensures a smooth transition."Bringing Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales to PC with Insomniac and Marvel Games has been fantastic," shared Julian Huijbregts, Nixxes Community Manager. He, along with Insomniac's Mike Fitzgerald, highlights ray tracing, ultrawide monitor support, and extensive graphical options designed for optimal PC performance. While features like DualSense adaptive triggers and haptic feedback won't be replicated, keyboard and mouse controls and ultrawide support are sure to please PC gamers.
The PC release includes all post-launch content updates from the PS5 version. Expect twelve new suits (including Symbiote Suit styles), New Game+, "Ultimate Levels," new time-of-day options, post-game achievements, enhanced Photo Mode features, and additional content for Digital Deluxe Edition owners. Note that no new story content will be added.
PSN Account Requirement: A Point of Contention
A significant drawback is the requirement of a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, mirroring a trend in recent PlayStation PC ports. This excludes players in regions without PSN access, raising concerns about accessibility. While Sony reversed a similar PSN requirement for Helldivers 2, the issue remains a point of contention for players. This requirement affects titles like God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Forbidden West, and Ghost of Tsushima, sparking debate about the necessity of linking Steam accounts to PSN for single-player games.
The PC release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 completes the trilogy's availability on PC, showcasing Sony's commitment to expanding its reach beyond PlayStation consoles. While the PSN requirement needs addressing, the broader availability is a positive step. Game8 awarded the PS5 version an 88, praising it as a fantastic sequel.
