Marvel Comics is set to launch a new Captain America series, featuring a fresh creative team and storyline focusing on Steve Rogers' early days post-defrosting. This includes his very first encounter with Doctor Doom.
The series, announced at the ComicsPro convention, will be written by Chip Zdarsky (Batman, Daredevil) and illustrated by Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers), with colors by Frank D'Armata. This marks a reunion for the trio, who previously collaborated on 2017's Marvel 2-in-One.

The story begins shortly after Steve's rediscovery in the modern Marvel universe. His initial mission, following his army re-enlistment, involves the Howling Commandos and an infiltration of a young Doctor Doom's newly conquered Latveria. While the series will eventually transition to contemporary Marvel events, this opening arc's impact will resonate throughout the narrative.
Zdarsky stated, "Getting to write the actual Captain America title feels like a dream! We're exploring Cap's early days with a surprising twist." He aims for a grounded, human portrayal of Cap in this new era, highlighting his inherent goodness.
Schiti expressed his excitement about reuniting with Zdarsky and D'Armata, emphasizing the story's balance of action, heart, and entertainment. He noted a focus on Steve Rogers the man, rather than solely Captain America, driven by Zdarsky's compelling script. He highlighted the immense pressure on Rogers, considering his experiences and relatively young age in this era.
Captain America #1 releases July 2, 2025.
