Silent Hill f marks a milestone in the iconic horror franchise, as it becomes the first entry to receive an 18+ rating certification in Japan.
As shown at the start of the Japanese-language reveal trailer, which premiered last night, Silent Hill f is rated Mature in the U.S., PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan. This classification places it in the highest age-restricted category available in Japan, indicating mature content not suitable for minors.
Although the game remains in active development and ratings may still be subject to change, Silent Hill f notably breaks from series tradition. Previous entries such as Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room were all rated CERO:C — intended for players aged 15 and older — in Japan. Other titles in the series developed outside of Japan were typically rated either CERO:C or CERO:D (ages 17+).
Even the upcoming Silent Hill 2 Remake by Bloober Team received a CERO:C rating in Japan, despite being classified as 17+ in most Western territories.
Last night also saw Konami deliver a brand-new [ttpp]Silent Hill Transmission[/ttpp], the publisher's dedicated online showcase focused on the Silent Hill franchise. This latest broadcast centered entirely around Silent Hill f, marking the first major update since its initial announcement in 2022 and representing the franchise’s return after a 13-year hiatus.
Set in 1960s Japan, Silent Hill f follows Shimizu Hinako, a teenage girl grappling with intense pressure from her peers, family, and society. The narrative is penned by Ryukishi07, best known for his work on the acclaimed When They Cry visual novel series.

While gameplay was not heavily featured, the trailer provided a rich look at the game’s eerie atmosphere, chilling monster designs, and a reimagined Otherworld now dominated not by rust, but by crimson flowers.
At this time, no official release date has been announced for Silent Hill f, and no updates were shared regarding No Code's Silent Hill: Townfall during the presentation.
