"Killer Instinct Gold Joins Nintendo Switch Online Library"

Author : Penelope May 19,2025

Killer Instinct Gold has recently been added to the Nintendo Switch Online library, delighting fans of classic fighting games. This title is a Nintendo 64 port of the iconic arcade fighter Killer Instinct 2 and joins the original Killer Instinct in the extensive collection of retro games available to subscribers of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.

First released in 1996, Killer Instinct Gold was crafted by the renowned British studio Rare, which was a key second-party developer for Nintendo during that era. Rare's portfolio includes other beloved titles such as Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark. In Killer Instinct Gold, players can choose from a roster of 10 fierce fighters and engage in various game modes, boasting "hundreds of thousands of moves and killer Combos at your fingertips."

Although Rare and the Killer Instinct franchise are now under Microsoft's umbrella, Killer Instinct Gold marks another Xbox Game Studios title making its way to the Switch. Since the launch of the Xbox One title Killer Instinct in 2013, there have been no announcements regarding a new sequel to the series.

The 10 Best Fighting Games

View 11 ImagesNintendo Switch Online is a subscription-based online gaming service designed for the Nintendo Switch platform. Subscribers enjoy online multiplayer capabilities, enabling them to compete or collaborate with friends, and access to a rich library of classic Nintendo games from the past four decades. This collection includes titles from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and, with the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, the new GameCube libraries. A free seven-day trial is available for those curious to explore the service.

Preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 began at the end of April, with the console priced at $449.99. The response was overwhelming, as expected. Despite Nintendo issuing a warning to U.S. customers who preordered via the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to high demand, Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, expressed confidence to IGN that the company will have sufficient units to meet consumer demand through the holiday season.
