Guillermo del Toro's lifelong fascination with Frankenstein rivals even the creature's creator. A recent Netflix preview showcased a first look at his highly anticipated adaptation, although a trailer won't debut until summer. The image revealed Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein.
Del Toro, in a video message (as reported by Variety), confessed, "This film has been in my mind since childhood—50 years. I've tried to make it for 20 to 25 years. Some might think I'm obsessed with Frankenstein." He gestured to his extensive Frankenstein collection within his Bleak House.
A brief glimpse of footage was shown, featuring Isaac's Victor confronting Mia Goth, a seemingly wealthy aristocrat, and Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein's monster—described as having long black hair, stitched gray skin, and red-tinged eyes. This footage remains unavailable online.
Del Toro emotionally stated, "Over the decades, the character has fused with my soul; it's become an autobiography. It doesn't get more personal." His dedication to bringing this long-gestating project to life is undeniable.
