EA Releases Source Code for Four Command & Conquer Games

Electronic Arts (EA) has taken a bold step by releasing the source code for four iconic titles in the Command & Conquer series. The games in question—Command & Conquer, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Command & Conquer: Renegade, and Command & Conquer: Generals—are now available to the public on GitHub under an open-source license. This groundbreaking move allows both fans and developers to delve into, modify, and enhance these beloved classics, offering endless possibilities for innovation and revival.

In addition to this significant release, EA has also introduced Steam Workshop support for newer Command & Conquer games powered by the SAGE engine, such as Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3. This new feature facilitates easier creation and sharing of custom content among players, fostering a dynamic and thriving community-driven experience. The integration of Steam Workshop opens up a world of creativity, where players can easily share their mods and enjoy those created by others.

Although EA may not be actively developing new titles within the Command & Conquer franchise at the moment, the series remains a favorite among long-time fans. By making the source code publicly available and enhancing modding capabilities, EA is empowering the community to breathe new life into these classic games. This initiative not only honors the legacy of Command & Conquer but also has the potential to attract a new audience eager to explore or contribute to the rich history of the series. This could spark a fresh wave of interest and engagement, ensuring that the legacy of Command & Conquer continues to thrive.
