Marvel star Chris Hemsworth has shared a Thor tribute video, igniting rumors that the character might meet his end in Avengers: Doomsday.
Titled 'Thank You! The Legacy of Thor,' the compilation features footage ranging from Hemsworth's early audition tapes to his role in 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder. While it could simply be a nostalgic reflection on the character Hemsworth has portrayed since 2011, timed with the start of filming for Avengers: Doomsday, many interpret it as a farewell tribute to Thor.
Hemsworth also included a personal note of gratitude in the video description:
"Portraying Thor has been one of the most profound honors of my career. For 15 years, I've wielded Mjolnir and Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but the experience was truly defined by sharing it with all of you. Your enthusiasm, support, and affection for this character have meant the world to me.
"Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe so memorable. Next up, Doomsday!"
This message, paired with the tribute video, has stirred concern among MCU fans that Chris Hemsworth might be preparing to retire from the role.
"Please don't ever leave this character. We all want you to continue," one fan commented on the video. "Never stop being Thor," pleaded another.
Similar sentiments are circulating on social media. "It's clear Thor isn't making it out of the next movie alive," observed one X/Twitter user. "He's done for," agreed another.

This speculation is supported by previous context. Last year, Hemsworth acknowledged that he "didn't stick the landing" with the polarizing Thor: Love and Thunder and expressed feeling he owed fans a stronger performance.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth reflected that he leaned too heavily into absurd comedy in Love and Thunder, which may have weakened the film—particularly coming after Thor: Ragnarok, where a lighter tone revitalized the character.
"I got carried away with improvisation and silliness, and ended up becoming a caricature of myself," Hemsworth admitted. "I didn't stick the landing." According to Vanity Fair, he feels unable to overlook his own performance, leading him to believe he owes audiences another film. The question remains: will Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars serve as his redemption, or does Thor deserve a dedicated fifth film as a send-off?

The likelihood of Thor 5 previously appeared low, as Hemsworth—having starred in eight MCU films—stated he is ready to "close the book" on the role. Additionally, director Taika Waititi, who helmed Ragnarok and Love and Thunder, will not return due to scheduling conflicts.
Marvel Studios has since delayed both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to December 2026 and December 2027, respectively. The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the two Avengers films are currently the only MCU movies with confirmed release dates.
