Bethesda's Iconic Voice Actor Shares Recovery Update

Author : Ryan Mar 28,2025

Iconic Bethesda voice actor Wes Johnson, known for his roles in *The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim*, *Fallout 3*, *Starfield*, and many other titles, recently shared a heartfelt message as he recovers from a life-threatening incident. Last week, Johnson was found "barely alive" in his hotel room, an event that led to a significant outpouring of support from fans and the gaming community.

A video from Johnson was uploaded to a GoFundMe page, which has raised an impressive $174,653 to help cover his medical expenses and other bills. In the video, Johnson revealed that he had been in a coma, and expressed his gratitude for the support he received. "I found out there's a lot of love in this world that I didn't know was out there and I'm grateful to each and every one of you," he said.

Johnson was in Atlanta to host a benefit event for the National Alzheimer’s Foundation. After checking into his hotel, he did not appear at the event, prompting his wife, Kim Johnson, to call the hotel. Security and emergency medical technicians eventually found him, struggling to detect a pulse.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Johnson remarked, "Rumors of my demise, well they weren't exaggerated. It was very close, very close. But I'm still here." He credited his survival to his wife's quick action in calling the hotel and his son's involvement in alerting security. Johnson was subsequently hospitalized and placed in a coma for five days.

During his recovery, Johnson learned about the GoFundMe campaign organized by his friends Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker, along with his wife Kim. He expressed deep gratitude for the support, which included a $25,000 donation from Ted Leonsis, chairman of the Washington Capitals' parent company. Johnson also thanked the National Alzheimer's Association for their support in flying his family to see him and providing accommodations.

Bethesda, where Johnson has lent his voice to numerous beloved characters, also showed their support on social media. Johnson responded warmly, saying, "You say that I'm your friend. I am. Always will be. Love you guys." He extended his thanks to all fans, whether they donated or simply offered their support, affirming, "I love you all. I'm not going anywhere."

Looking forward, Johnson remains optimistic about his recovery. "It's going to be a while as I work my way back but I'm coming back. I look forward to seeing and having you all hear me then. Cheers," he concluded.

Beyond his video game work, Johnson has also appeared in various film and television roles. His contributions to Bethesda games include voicing Ron Hope in *Starfield*, Prince of Madness Sheogorath and Lucien Lachance in *The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion*, three Daedric Princes in *The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind*, Fawkes and Maister Burke in *Fallout 3*, Hermaeus Mora and Emperor Titus Mede II in *Skyrim*, and Moe Cronin in *Fallout 4*, among others.
