Square Enix Cancels Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link

Author : Thomas May 28,2025

Square Enix has officially announced the cancellation of their mobile spin-off, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, an ARPG set to explore an untold chapter in the Kingdom Hearts saga. Despite the excitement surrounding its innovative use of GPS technology and ARPG battles, the project faced multiple delays, including a postponed Android closed beta test. Ultimately, Square Enix decided to halt development on Missing-Link, redirecting their focus entirely to the eagerly awaited Kingdom Hearts IV.

Missing-Link was poised to immerse players in a forgotten era of the Kingdom Hearts universe, where they would battle the nefarious Heartless using the iconic keyblades. The game's integration of GPS technology was a unique selling point, promising players the ability to explore different global locations virtually. However, the specifics of how this would work remained unclear, and this ambiguity might have contributed to the project's cancellation.

Square Enix's decision to cancel yet another mobile project has become somewhat of a recurring theme. Despite the acclaim their games often receive, the complexity of their titles can make them challenging to market internationally. Although Kingdom Hearts enjoys a global fanbase, the core concept of Missing-Link may have proven too difficult to execute effectively, leading Square Enix to prioritize the development of Kingdom Hearts IV.
