Overwatch 2 Stadium Summer Roadmap Revealed by Blizzard

Author : Jack May 03,2025

Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled its exciting Overwatch 2 Stadium roadmap for 2025, providing a glimpse into the heroes and features slated for Season 17, Season 18, Season 19, and beyond. In a detailed Director’s Take blog post, game director Aaron Keller shared insights into the past, present, and future of this innovative new mode, which has been live for just over a week. Alongside the roadmap, Keller clarified the mode's origins and its impressive performance to date.

PlayStadium Gets 7 New Heroes This Summer -------------------------------------

The Stadium rollout continues to evolve, starting with the introduction of the new Damage hero, Freja, during a mid-season patch for Season 16. However, it's Season 17 in June that promises a significant expansion. Heroes like Junkrat, Sigma, and Zenyatta will join the fray, accompanied by the new Esperança Push map and Samoa Control map. Blizzard plans to enhance the Stadium experience with features like Unranked Crossplay, new all-star rewards, custom games, example builds, and the ability to save and share builds. While the exact timing of these additions remains unclear, anticipation is high.

In Season 18, players can look forward to the addition of Winston, Sojourn, and Brigitte, along with the Route 66 and London maps. A new Payload Race game mode will be introduced, featuring two new maps, a Stadium trials feature, and the ability to Endorse teammates. Blizzard has committed to adding multiple new heroes each season, both from the existing roster and new characters yet to be revealed. Season 19 and beyond will bring a new China map, a Draft Mode, consumables, and item system tweaks, ensuring continuous evolution and excitement.

How has Stadium Performed so Far?

The Overwatch 2 team has shared impressive statistics on Stadium's performance, revealing that it has quickly become the most played mode, surpassing Quick Play and Competitive. During its launch week, Stadium saw 2.3 million matches played across 7.8 million hours. This is more than double the engagement seen during Overwatch Classic's launch week. Notably, Lucio has emerged as the hero with the highest win rate but the lowest pick rate, while players have spent a staggering 900 billion Stadium Cash and selected 206 million items for their builds.

In his Director’s Take, Aaron Keller confirmed that Stadium was in development before Overwatch 2's launch, dispelling rumors that it was created in response to Marvel Rivals, which debuted in December 2024. Keller emphasized Blizzard's commitment to ongoing communication, promising more insights into Stadium next week. He also reassured fans that Blizzard remains dedicated to the core Quick Play and Competitive modes, stating that Stadium is an additional avenue to deliver an exciting Overwatch experience.

Keller concluded by highlighting the team's enthusiasm for Season 18, calling it a "banger," and encouraged players to enjoy Stadium while continuing to contribute to the game's development. Overwatch 2's Stadium mode was introduced with Season 16 last week as part of Blizzard's efforts to reinvigorate its player base. This initiative, which began with a comprehensive Spotlight presentation in February, has led to positive changes such as the return of loot boxes and an improved Steam rating, with many fans considering it the best Overwatch experience in years.
