4A Games and Dmitry Glukhovsky Announce New Metro Game

Amidst the buzz around Reburn—a new studio formed by former members of 4A Games Ukraine, the creators behind the iconic Metro series—the original 4A Games has taken steps to reassure fans about the future of the franchise. This reassurance came in the wake of Reburn’s announcement of their first project, La Quimera, which sparked questions about the Metro series' direction.

In an official statement, 4A Games cleared up any confusion about their relationship with Reburn, extending congratulations for La Quimera while firmly restating their dedication to the Metro series.

“We remain the team responsible for bringing you the beloved Metro games,” the statement declared. “Our efforts toward the next Metro installment continue in partnership with Dmitry Glukhovsky, guided by the same visionaries and talent that have shaped the series since its inception.”

Beyond the eagerly anticipated Metro sequel, 4A Games hinted at progress on a brand-new intellectual property (IP), though details remain under wraps. They expressed pride in their Ukrainian roots and the diversity of their team, noting that the majority of their staff—approximately 150 out of over 200 members—are still based in Kyiv, with additional operations in Sliema, Malta, and remote setups.

Addressing the organizational split, 4A Games provided clarity:

“Following the completion of Metro Exodus and its DLC, we collaborated closely with our partners at 4A Games Ukraine through outsourcing. Post-Exodus, we founded 4A Games Limited in Kyiv, absorbing roughly 50 more colleagues to sustain our momentum. Simultaneously, 4A Games Ukraine embarked on their standalone journey with La Quimera, eventually rebranding as Reburn.”

Since the launch of Metro Exodus in early 2019, fan interest in the series has only grown, despite the scarcity of updates. While spin-offs and enhancements like the Enhanced Edition have kept the community engaged, many are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Dmitry Glukhovsky’s dystopian universe. Supported by Embracer Group (formerly THQ Nordic), the studio initially hinted at a new Metro title in 2019, setting a vague "202X" release window before going silent. Now, it appears that the wait for the next installment may soon be over.
