The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.
Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, steps into the spotlight as the Witcher's trilogy concludes. The trailer depicts Ciri intervening in a village's disturbing ritualistic sacrifice, revealing a far more complex situation than initially apparent.
While no official release date is set, considering the development times of Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077, a 3-4 year timeframe for Witcher 4 seems plausible. Given the early stage of production, a release within the next few years is a reasonable expectation.
Platform specifics remain unannounced, but given the projected timeline, a current-generation console focus is likely. PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC releases are anticipated. While a Switch port was possible for Witcher 3, it's less likely for this iteration, though a potential Switch 2 release remains a possibility.
The CGI trailer hints at gameplay elements, including the return of potions, signs, and familiar phrases. A new addition may be Ciri's chain, used for both combat and magic.
Voice actor Doug Cockle confirmed Geralt's involvement, albeit in a supporting role. His presence in the trailer suggests a potential mentorship for Ciri.
