Some might argue that we're in the midst of a renaissance for video game adaptations, with hits like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, another Sonic the Hedgehog film, and acclaimed TV series such as The Last of Us and Fallout. Excitingly, more adaptations are on the horizon, including God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, and many others. The quality of these adaptations seems to have leaped forward, offering fans much more than what we've seen in the past.

For the purpose of this list, we define a "video game movie" or "TV show" as an adaptation of an existing video game. This excludes movies like Wreck-It Ralph, which is about video games but not an adaptation. These adaptations don't necessarily need to be faithful to the source material—they just need to be based on actual games.
