With the 25th anniversary of the iconic Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series fast approaching, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk has confirmed that Activision is planning a special tribute. Details remain scarce, but the announcement has ignited excitement among fans.
Activision and Tony Hawk Team Up for THPS 25th Anniversary Celebration
The news broke during a recent appearance on YouTube's Mythical Kitchen. Hawk revealed, "I've been talking to Activision again, which is insanely exciting. We're working on something—This is the first time I've said that publicly." While he remained tight-lipped about specifics, he assured fans that the project "will be something the fans will truly appreciate."
The original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater launched on September 29, 1999, sparking a wildly successful franchise. A remastered collection of THPS 1+2 was released in 2020, with plans for remasters of 3 and 4 ultimately cancelled due to the closure of Vicarious Visions. Hawk previously expressed disappointment over the cancellation of the planned remasters, citing the studio's closure and Activision's restructuring as contributing factors.
Speculation Mounts: New Game or Remastered Project?
The official THPS social media channels have already begun celebrating the anniversary with new artwork and a giveaway. This, coupled with Hawk's announcement, has fuelled speculation about a potential new game launch, possibly coinciding with a rumored Sony State of Play event this month. However, whether this will be a new entry in the franchise or a revival of the cancelled remaster project remains a mystery. The anticipation is palpable as fans eagerly await further announcements.
