Excitement is building as cameras have begun rolling on DC's next major cinematic venture, "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." To mark this thrilling milestone, DC Studios' head James Gunn took to Bluesky to share a sneak peek of Milly Alcock, known for her role in "House of the Dragon," stepping into the iconic shoes of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. Gunn shared a captivating image of Alcock seated in her actor's chair, offering fans their first glimpse of the actress in her new role.

In his post, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El." This confirms that Craig Gillespie, acclaimed director of "Cruella" and "I, Tonya," will be directing the film, as previously reported in April.

While details about the plot remain under wraps, it's known that the movie will draw heavily from the graphic novel "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. The comic follows a standalone narrative featuring an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. This critically acclaimed series was nominated for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards and is highly recommended for those yet to explore its pages.

The cast is shaping up to be stellar, with Matthias Schoenaerts set to portray Krem, and Eve Ridley taking on the role of Ruthye. The ensemble also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, Emily Beecham as her mother, and Jason Momoa, who has been recast in the DC universe as the notorious Lobo.

"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" marks the second film in the newly rebooted DC universe, following James Gunn's "Superman," which is slated to hit theaters this summer. Other projects in development include "The Batman Part II," which may or may not connect to Gunn's broader cinematic universe, and a rumored "Clayface" movie directed by Mike Flanagan.
