Pokémon Go Director Discusses Scopely Concerns in New Interview

Author : Harper Apr 18,2025

Following the acquisition of Pokémon Go developer Niantic by Scopely, the company behind Monopoly Go, fans have expressed concerns ranging from increased advertisements to data privacy. However, a recent interview with Pokémon Go's product director, Michael Steranka, published on Polygon, aims to alleviate these fears.

In the interview, Steranka praised Scopely, highlighting the shared vision between the two companies. He assured fans that Scopely is unlikely to introduce intrusive ads into Pokémon Go. Addressing data privacy concerns, Steranka firmly stated that Niantic would not share or sell player data to third parties. He also emphasized that the transition to working under Scopely would have minimal impact on Niantic's operations.

If it ain't broke...While there might be some corporate influence, it seems unlikely that Scopely will significantly alter the successful operations of Pokémon Go. The game's ongoing success suggests that any changes will be minimal. Moreover, Niantic's new AR-focused spin-off team indicates a broader business strategy beyond Pokémon Go.

Steranka also pointed out the close collaboration with The Pokémon Company in decision-making processes for Pokémon Go, suggesting that any actions not aligned with their standards would be off the table.

If these assurances have eased your concerns and you're ready to dive back into Pokémon Go, don't forget to check out our regularly updated list of promo codes for free in-game boosts.
