Following the successful releases of Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1 in March and Godzilla vs. Hulk #1 in April, this new issue continues the trend of nostalgic, throwback narratives. Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 is set shortly after the events of the 1984 Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars, where Peter Parker returns from Battleworld and faces the challenges of his new alien symbiote costume. As Godzilla descends upon the city, Spider-Man must harness his enhanced abilities to protect his home.
The creative team behind this issue includes writer Joe Kelly, who is also set to helm the upcoming relaunch of The Amazing Spider-Man. Kelly is joined by artist Nick Bradshaw, known for his work on Wolverine and the X-Men, and cover artists Bradshaw, Lee Garbett, and Greg Land. Kelly expressed his excitement about the project, stating, "The second I heard that there was going to be a Godzilla x Spidey crossover set in the ‘80s, I almost leapt across the table to claim it. This book is a chance to go nuts and have a blast with two iconic characters and channel the chaos of the time period that I was actively collecting Spider-Man."
This crossover marks another instance of Godzilla clashing with beloved superheroes, following DC's Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong. However, while DC focused on the MonsterVerse versions of Godzilla and King Kong, Marvel's series pays homage to the classic Toho Godzilla. This news comes on the heels of IDW's Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1, an anthology special aimed at supporting wildfire relief efforts.
*Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1* is scheduled for release on April 30, 2025.For those eager to stay updated on upcoming comic book releases, be sure to check out what Marvel and DC have in store for 2025.
