Osmos, the acclaimed cell-absorbing puzzle game, is back on Android! Previously removed due to playability issues stemming from outdated porting technology, it's been resurrected by developer Hemisphere Games with a completely revamped port.
For those unfamiliar, Osmos is a unique, award-winning physics-based puzzle where players absorb microorganisms to grow, all while avoiding being absorbed themselves. Its simple yet engaging gameplay made it a hit, but Android users were left in the dark for years.
Now, years after its initial 2010 release, Osmos returns to Google Play, optimized for modern Android devices. Hemisphere Games explains in a blog post that the original Android version, developed with Apportable, became impossible to update after Apportable's closure. This led to its removal from the store due to incompatibility with current (64-bit) Android systems. The new version, however, boasts a completely rebuilt port.

Osmos is a nostalgic gem, a reminder of a time when mobile gaming felt limitless. While it may be a throwback, its captivating gameplay remains timeless. For more brain-bending mobile puzzles, check out our list of the top 25 best puzzle games for iOS and Android.
