Meet All Recruitable Companions in Avowed

Author : Liam Apr 25,2025

Embarking on the treacherous journey through the Living Lands in *Avowed* can be daunting, but fear not—you won't have to go it alone. With four distinct Companions at your side, each boasting unique personalities and upgradable abilities, you're set for an unforgettable adventure. Here's a detailed look at every Companion you can recruit in *Avowed*.

Kai

Kai is the first Companion you'll encounter in *Avowed*, joining you early in the game at the port of Dawnshore near Paradis. As soon as you step onto the dock, Kai approaches you, eager to team up in the search for the Ambassador and the Cleric. He remains a steadfast member of your party until you recruit three Companions, at which point you can swap him out at a Party Camp.

A former mercenary with a heart of gold, Kai serves as a tank in combat, capable of both dishing out and enduring significant damage. His fire abilities are particularly useful for clearing obstructions like cobwebs and roots, revealing hidden pathways and valuable loot.

Kai's upgradable abilities include:

  • Fire and Ire (Active): Kai unleashes a powerful shot from his blunderbuss, stunning and taunting a single enemy for 10 seconds.
  • Unbending Defense (Active): He regenerates health and boosts his damage reduction by 25%.
  • Leap of Daring (Active): Kai leaps into the fray, stunning and taunting all nearby enemies.
  • Second Win (Passive): When his health hits zero, Kai revives himself, restoring 50% of his maximum health.

Marius

Marius, the second Companion you'll meet, has a history with Kai and can be found in Dawnshore. He joins your party at a bar where you can either negotiate his way out of a conflict or help him fight off some hostile NPCs.

As an expert hunter and tracker, Marius brings his skills to bear in both narrative and gameplay. His Hunter Sense ability aids in locating loot and crafting materials across the Living Lands. In combat, he uses a bow and arrow along with daggers, and can manipulate nature to trap enemies with Roots.

Marius's upgradable abilities are:

  • Binding Roots (Active): Marius roots an enemy in place for 8 seconds.
  • Heart Seeker (Active): He fires a piercing shot that hits its target and passes through obstacles.
  • Shadow Step (Active): Marius vanishes into smoke, reappearing near an enemy to strike with his daggers up to three times.
  • Wounding Shots (Passive): His attacks cause bleed accumulation.

Giatta

Giatta, the third Companion, joins your party later in the main quest at the Fior settlement in the Emerald Stair Region. As an animancer, she practices a controversial form of magic in the Living Lands.

Her animancy plays a crucial role in solving the spiritual mysteries of the Main Quest. In combat, Giatta serves as a support, healing, shielding, and buffing allies. Her Spectral Jolt ability is essential for powering Essence Generators, which unlock hidden pathways and loot during exploration.

Giatta's upgradable abilities include:

  • Purification (Active): She heals all allies by 25% of their maximum health.
  • Barrier (Active): Giatta grants temporary health to all allies for 20 seconds.
  • Acceleration (Active): She boosts the move and attack speed of all allies for 15 seconds.
  • Reconstruction (Passive): Her attacks heal all allies by a small amount.

Yatzli

Yatzli faces off in a forest in Avowed

Yatzli is the fourth and final Companion you can recruit, joining your party in the Shatterscarp region within the city of Thirdborn during a main quest. Although you can encounter her earlier in the world, her official recruitment happens later.

A magic user focused on damage, Yatzli's spells are devastating, effective for both single targets and crowd control. Her magic also proves useful in clearing obstacles, making her an invaluable asset when navigating the Living Lands.

Yatzli's upgradable abilities are:

  • Essence Explosion (Active): She unleashes an arcane explosion that deals damage and releases a burst of Essence.
  • Minoletta’s Missile Battery (Active): Yatzli fires a volley of seeking arcane missiles at nearby enemies.
  • Arduos Delay of Motion (Active): She manipulates arcane energy to slow an enemy for 10 seconds.
  • Blast (Passive): Her attacks create a small area of effect upon hitting an enemy.

These are all the Companions you can recruit in *Avowed*. Each brings their own strengths and abilities to your journey through the Living Lands, making your adventure both richer and more manageable.
