Hasbro has exciting news for fans of Magic: The Gathering: they're bringing the beloved card game to screens everywhere. Partnering with Legendary Entertainment, they're set to create a comprehensive shared universe that will feature both movies and TV shows, with the movie taking the lead.
"We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering," stated Legendary’s chairman of worldwide production. Legendary Entertainment is known for its impressive portfolio, including films like Dune and the Godzilla series such as Godzilla vs Kong, as well as Detective Pikachu.
While details are still emerging, it appears that the upcoming movie and TV projects at Legendary will be distinct from the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series set to debut on Netflix. However, there's a possibility that plans may evolve, potentially integrating the animated series into this expansive shared universe.
Magic: The Gathering, created by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, has grown to become one of the world's most popular trading card games. Wizards of the Coast joined the Hasbro family in 1999.
Hasbro is well-versed in transforming its products into cinematic experiences, having produced films based on properties like G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons and Dragons. Currently, the company is working on several projects, including new G.I. Joe movies, a Power Rangers film, and a Beyblade movie.
