NetEase's collectible card game, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, is shutting down in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania on October 29th, 2024. While the game remains available in Asia and some MENA regions, this regional end-of-service (EOS) announcement marks the end of an era for many players.
Initially launched in China in September 2021 and globally on June 27th, 2023, the game enjoyed a strong start but ultimately failed to maintain momentum. Its Clash Royale-inspired gameplay, combined with the Harry Potter universe, initially captivated players. However, the game's later shift towards a pay-to-win model, particularly after a controversial reward system rework, alienated many free-to-play users. This led to complaints about slower progression and a diminished focus on skill-based gameplay.
The game's removal from the Google Play Store in affected regions began on August 26th, 2024. Players in regions where the game remains available can still experience the Hogwarts atmosphere, attending classes, exploring secrets, and engaging in wizard duels.
