"Ex-Bethesda Dev Anticipates Fallout 3 Remaster to Enhance 'Not Good' Gun Combat"

With The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered receiving a warm reception from fans, speculation is rife about which Bethesda game will be next in line for a remaster. Many believe that Fallout 3, which was leaked in 2023, might be the chosen one. Bruce Nesmith, a designer of Fallout 3, has highlighted the game's "not good" gun combat as a key area for improvement in a potential remaster.

Speaking to VideoGamer, Nesmith suggested that a Fallout 3 Remastered would feature gunplay more akin to that of Fallout 4. He noted, "What did you see in Fallout 4? That will tell you what they felt was necessary to change from Fallout 3." Nesmith praised the significant improvements made to gun combat in Fallout 4, acknowledging that Fallout 3 was Bethesda's first foray into shooter-style gameplay.

Oblivion Remastered, developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, boasts a plethora of visual and feature enhancements. It runs at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, but the upgrades go much deeper. From revamped leveling systems and character creation to enhanced combat animations and in-game menus, the remaster offers a comprehensive overhaul. New dialogue, a proper third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology further enrich the experience. Fans have been so impressed that some consider it more of a remake than a remaster, though Bethesda insists it remains a remaster.

Nesmith believes that Fallout 3 Remastered would likely follow a similar path of improvements and enhancements as seen in Oblivion Remastered. He pointed out that Fallout 3's combat didn't measure up to contemporary shooters at the time of its release and expressed anticipation for the integration of Fallout 4's combat enhancements into a potential remaster.

He also praised the extent of the upgrades in Oblivion Remastered, saying, "Oblivion wasn’t just brought up to the 2011 version of Skyrim. It was brought up to something that, at least on the surface, looks like it exceeds the most recent graphics update in Skyrim." Nesmith went as far as to call The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered "Oblivion 2.0."

Bethesda is currently juggling multiple projects, including The Elder Scrolls VI, possibly more Starfield content, ongoing work on Fallout 76, and the Fallout TV show, which is set to explore New Vegas in its second season. With all these developments, fans have much to look forward to in the coming years.
