ASTRA: Knights of Veda Removing English Dubbing After Maintenance
Improving Game Stability and Localizations
Developer FLINT announced on January 20th that ASTRA: Knights of Veda will remove English dubbing support on January 23rd, 2025, to improve game stability and localization quality. Regular maintenance on the 23rd will implement this change, also affecting German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian. Korean, English text, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian will remain.
While English text support continues, in-game English voiceovers will be removed. Outside Korea, the in-game voice option will default to Japanese. This change won't affect players' ability to chat in any of the removed languages. FLINT assures players their commitment to providing better service and experiences.
Other Gacha Games That Removed English Voiceovers
ASTRA: Knights of Veda isn't alone. Other gacha games have also reduced or removed English voiceovers. These include Square Enix’s War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Yostar Games’ Aether Gazer, and Amazing Seasun Games’ Snowbreak: Containment Zone.
In May 2024, Square Enix announced the removal of English voiceovers for future War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius content, starting with Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7. Existing content remains unchanged. This prioritizes the Japanese language for new content.
Aether Gazer developers announced in February 2024 the complete removal of English voiceovers after the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" update, citing financial difficulties and a need to reallocate resources.
Snowbreak: Containment Zone removed English voiceovers in December 2023 (Version 1.4) after evaluating player preferences and optimizing the gaming experience. Some content now defaults to Japanese voiceovers.
These decisions often reflect a prioritization of either player language preferences or resource allocation. Focusing on the most popular language is efficient, and the long-term cost of maintaining English voice acting in gacha games, which often receive years of updates, can be substantial. Reallocating these resources allows developers to focus on game longevity and other player-valued aspects.
