Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Necessary Evil Quest Walkthrough

Following the completion of “Back in the Saddle,” you'll unlock “Necessary Evil.” Von Bergow tasks Hans and Henry with gathering intelligence from Nebakov Fortress, followed by the interrogation of a prisoner. The interrogation's outcome dictates whether von Bergow targets Semine or Nebakov. This walkthrough focuses on the Semine path, where the most difficult choices lie.

Prisoner Interrogation Answers

Prisoner Interrogation

Successful interrogation requires passing several Speech checks. You can either employ threats (Speech) or resort to torture. The Speech check requirements are:

  • “We’ll put in a good word for you.” (20 Impression)
  • “Istvan and I are old acquaintances.” (20 Impression)
  • “Otherwise, it’ll end badly for you.” (17 Intimidation)

The interrogation reveals the bandit leader's identity and Semine's involvement. When briefing von Bergow, you can either expose Young Semine's collusion with the bandits (leading to an attack on the town) or claim no one aided the bandits (resulting in an attack on Nebakov).

Should You Attack Semine or Nebakov?

Attacking Semine necessitates accompanying the party, leading to further complex decisions involving Hashek. Attacking Nebakov allows von Bergow to handle the bandits, immediately concluding the quest.

While avoiding the Semine bloodshed might seem preferable, letting Semine escape consequence for the innocent lives lost is morally questionable. Attacking Semine, despite potential familiarity with its inhabitants from earlier in the game, often feels like the more just course of action. Remember, failing to ride with the party to Semine results in the town's massacre.

Should You Side With Semine or Hashek?

Semine or Hashek

Before the attack, a conversation with Hashek reveals his thirst for revenge against Semine and his preference for extreme violence.

Choosing to side with Hashek involves selecting the dialogue option, “Hashek is right.” Siding with Semine requires choosing, “Olda deserves a trial.”

Siding with Semine is generally recommended. While Semine's actions were wrong, Hashek's scorched-earth approach leads to further unnecessary loss of life. This aligns with a morally upright playthrough of Henry's character. After defeating Hashek, advise the Semines to burn their estate and flee to advance the quest. Remember, siding with Hashek results in the town's annihilation. You'll also encounter Olda in the tower and decide his fate.

Should You Tell von Bergow or Let Hans Talk?

The final stage involves reporting back to von Bergow. You can choose to remain silent, letting Hans speak, or reveal the Semine events.

Remaining silent and letting Hans speak is recommended. Hans's diplomatic approach maintains favor with von Bergow, leading to the planning of the Nebakov assault.

This guide covers the key decisions in “Necessary Evil,” particularly the choice between Semine and Hashek. For more Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 tips and information, including romance options and Goat Skin locations, consult The Escapist.
