Summary

  • Windows 11 update caused issues with two Assassin's Creed games.
  • Fixes issued for AC Origins & Valhalla, but Odyssey may still have problems.

Assassin's Creed fans who encountered difficulties launching their games after a Windows update can breathe a sigh of relief. Ubisoft has released patches to resolve these issues for two titles in the franchise, although some other games may still be affected.

Windows regularly rolls out updates, and the 24H2 update for Windows 11 introduced features like Wi-Fi 7 support, enhanced energy-saving modes, and AI Copilot+ PC capabilities. However, following this update, some players reported that certain games, including Assassin's Creed titles, failed to start or exhibited erratic behavior. The newly released fixes aim to resolve these problems for two of Ubisoft's games.

Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla have both received updates to address the issues stemming from the Windows 11 24H2 update. These updates should automatically download via Steam, enabling the games to launch properly. Players should ensure they have sufficient storage space, as the patch for Origins requires 230 MB and Valhalla's patch takes up 500 MB.

Windows Update 24H2 Is Still Plaguing Some Ubisoft Games

It remains unclear what aspect of the Windows update triggered these game malfunctions. While gamers appreciate the fixes for Origins and Valhalla, some are still experiencing issues with other titles. Assassin's Creed Odyssey, in particular, continues to face problems, ranging from unresponsiveness to complete failure to function. Ubisoft's previous hotfixes have mitigated the most severe issues with games like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, but some performance hiccups may persist. Fans of Assassin's Creed Odyssey might want to delay updating Windows until a fix becomes available for their game.

Although these issues are now being addressed, it's unfortunate they arose in the first place. Players began reporting problems with various games when the Windows 24H2 update preview was released five months earlier, yet the issues persisted into the official rollout. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Fortunately, most other games seem to have remained unaffected by the update.
