Monster Hunter Wilds Hits Nearly 1 Million Concurrent Players on Steam, Set to Grow Further

Author : David Mar 29,2025

Monster Hunter Wilds has made an explosive entry into the gaming world, achieving a staggering launch with nearly 1 million concurrent players on Steam alone. Launched across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, this Capcom action-adventure game has swiftly climbed to become the eighth most-played game on Steam ever, boasting an impressive peak of 987,482 concurrent users.

To put this into perspective, Monster Hunter Wilds has surpassed the all-time concurrent player peaks of major titles like Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, and Baldur’s Gate 3. It has also eclipsed the performance of its predecessor, Monster Hunter World, which reached a peak of 334,684 concurrent players on Steam in 2018. Keep in mind, the true peak concurrent figure for Monster Hunter Wilds is likely even higher, as neither Sony nor Microsoft disclose player statistics.

As Monster Hunter Wilds gears up for its first weekend on sale, the burning question is: How far can the Steam concurrent player count climb? It's poised to break the 1 million concurrent players mark today, potentially overtaking Cyberpunk 2077. Could it even reach 2 million players?

While Capcom has yet to release official sales figures for Monster Hunter Wilds, all indicators suggest a blockbuster launch. To put things in context, Monster Hunter World sold over 25 million copies within six years, solidifying its status as Capcom's top-selling game ever. However, Monster Hunter Wilds has received a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam, with some players citing performance issues.

IGN's review of Monster Hunter Wilds awarded it an 8/10, stating, "Monster Hunter Wilds continues to smooth off the rougher corners of the series in smart ways, making for some extremely fun fights but also lacking any real challenge."
