Duskbloods' Hub Keeper on Switch 2: A Cute Change Due to Nintendo Partnership

Author : Thomas May 24,2025

FromSoftware has unveiled additional details about their upcoming exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has not only influenced the game's style but has also led to a unique transformation in the design of the hub area's keeper, adopting a more adorable aesthetic.

During the Switch 2 Direct, the trailer concluded with an intriguing shot of a winged rat character adorned with glowing glyphs, directly engaging the audience. This character, as it turns out, is the new hub companion for The Duskbloods.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, in an interview with Nintendo, explained the character's role: "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance." He further elaborated on the design choice, saying, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership."

PlayWhen pressed on what he meant by "Nintendo-esque," Miyazaki added with a chuckle, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)."

FromSoftware's hub keepers have traditionally been pivotal figures in their games, characters like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll, who players frequently revisit for assistance and empowerment on their journeys. In The Duskbloods, a PvPvE title, the role of the winged rat as a guide remains shrouded in mystery. Miyazaki hinted at the team's experimentation with "a lot of new and interesting ideas," suggesting that players should anticipate surprises when The Duskbloods launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
