World of Warcraft's Patch 11.1, "Undermined," introduces thrilling new race types: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races. These replace traditional Skyriding races within the new Undermine zone.
Undermine, the Goblin capital, prohibits flying. Instead, players navigate its subterranean streets using the customizable D.R.I.V.E. vehicle, offering speeds exceeding those of Skyriding. Breakneck races fully utilize the D.R.I.V.E. system's potential for high-speed competition.
Complementing the ground-based races are the innovative Skyrocket races. These utilize Goblin jetpacks for aerial maneuvering, striking a balance between traditional flight and Skyriding mechanics. Players maintain momentum but cannot stop mid-air, adding a unique challenge. Speed increases with each collected ring, but handling becomes less responsive at higher velocities. WoW content creator MrGM's PTR footage showcases this dynamic gameplay.
No Skyriding, But Plenty of Racing:
Undermine's lack of Skyriding eliminates Skyriding races. However, both Breakneck and Skyrocket races offer Bronze, Silver, and Gold achievement rewards for completing each course. Reverse versions of all races are also included, though advanced or challenge courses are absent.
Race Lineup:
Skyrocket | Breakneck |
---|---|
Skyrocketing Sprint | Breakneck Bolt |
The Heaps Leap | Junkyard Jaunt |
Scrapshop Shot | Casino Cruise |
Rags to Riches Run | Sandy Scuttle |
Initial player feedback on Skyrocket races is varied. Some anticipate them enthusiastically, while others express concerns about the perceived stiffness and lack of responsiveness compared to Skyriding. With Patch 11.1 still under development (a February release is anticipated), further refinements are possible.
