Unveiling the True Power: Tips for Acquiring the Type-40 Sword in NieR:Automata

NieR: Automata's Type-40 Sword: A Guide to Acquisition

Small swords in NieR: Automata are characterized by their rapid attack speed and compact hitbox. They offer a balanced choice against diverse enemies. While weapon upgrades enhance their longevity, numerous powerful, upgradable weapons exist, with the Type-40 sword being a prime example. However, obtaining this sword requires completing a specific side quest, making it easily missed. This guide details the steps to acquire it.

Obtaining the Type-40 Sword

The Type-40 Sword is the reward for completing the side quest "Find A Present," the culmination of a questline involving Operator 6O. Unlocking this quest necessitates completing two preceding side quests. Here's a step-by-step breakdown, including chapter selection points for convenience:

  1. Post-Chapter 5: After defeating Adam and Eve in Chapter 5, you'll receive a call from Operator 6O. This initiates the "Investigating Communications" quest; complete it immediately as it's missable.

  2. Chapter 6 & 7 Progression: Advance through Chapter 6 (Forest Castle events) and begin Chapter 7.

  3. "Terminal Repairs": Following a conversation with Pascal about A2, explore the city ruins to trigger another call from Operator 6O. This directs you to an access point to start the "Terminal Repairs" quest.

  4. "Find A Present": While returning to the Resistance Camp during Chapter 7, a final call from Operator 6O will reference flowers, leading to another inbox message. Interact with this message to begin "Find A Present."

  5. Reward: Upon completing "Find A Present," the Type-40 Sword will be delivered to your inbox.

Type-40 Sword Stats & Upgrades

At level 1, the Type-40 Sword boasts a 5-hit light attack combo and a 3-hit heavy attack combo. Upgrading it to level 4 increases the light attack combo to 7 hits and enhances its effectiveness against stunned enemies. Titanium Alloy is required for these upgrades.

Additional "Find A Present" Rewards

Completing "Find A Present" also yields:

  • A130: Bomb
  • Amber x 4
  • 5,000 G
  • 800 EXP
