Aspyr's upcoming release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles for modern consoles features a surprising playable character: Jar Jar Binks! A new trailer showcases Binks wielding a large staff in action-packed gameplay.
This isn't the only new addition to the 2000 classic. Aspyr is significantly expanding the roster of playable characters. Beyond Jar Jar, nine additional characters have been revealed, with more promised before launch. The updated game also boasts customizable lightsaber colors and cheat code support.
The newly revealed characters offer a diverse range, including the Rodian, Flame Droid, Gungan Guard, Destroyer Droid, Ishi Tib, Rifle Droid, Staff Tusken Raider, Weequay, and Mercenary. Jar Jar, while unexpected, fits within this eclectic mix. He'll be playable from day one, January 23rd, when the game launches. Pre-orders are currently open.
While some fans might have envisioned a "Darth Jar Jar" scenario, the trailer shows Binks utilizing a staff and his signature chaotic personality. Aspyr's track record with other Star Wars game re-releases, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, suggests they aim to deliver a polished and nostalgic experience for fans. The expanded roster and additional features point to a significant upgrade to the original.
