In Project Zomboid, securing your shelter involves more than just finding a suitable location; it requires robust defenses against the undead hordes. While various methods exist, barricading windows with wooden planks is a fundamental and effective strategy. This guide details how to achieve this crucial step.
How to Secure Your Windows in Project Zomboid
To barricade a window, you'll need a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Gather these items and then right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window can support up to four planks for enhanced protection.
Hammers and nails are typically found in locations like toolboxes, garages, and sheds. Planks are commonly located at construction sites, or can be salvaged by breaking down wooden furniture in a pinch. Administrators can use the "/additem" command to spawn these items.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access. The more planks installed, the greater the resistance. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove," requiring a claw hammer or crowbar.
Note that large furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as window barriers; characters and zombies will pass through them. However, moving furniture remains a useful skill for interior design.
For superior barricades, metal bars or sheets offer stronger protection, but require sufficient Metalworking skill.
